BBL / IPL Photofacial

Better Looking Skin in the Flash of a Light!
The signs of aging go beyond fine lines and wrinkles. Photo damage is the result of a lifetime of ultraviolet light exposure. The visible signs include pigmentary changes, course skin texture, spider veins, facial redness, enlarged pores, and of course, wrinkles. Intense Pulsed Light treatments are designed to combat the effects of aging with a gentle approach.

What is BBL Photofacial?
Broad Band Light, commonly known as BBL (may also be called IPL, PhotoFacial or Photorejuvenation), delivers high intensity computer controlled pulses of light that penetrate the skin and heat the sub-surface layers. The heating action damages or destroys problem conditions like excess pigment and unwanted spider veins, while stimulating healthy, new collagen. A series of BBL photofacial treatments can offer the benefits of a medium depth laser resurfacing or chemical peel without blisters, burns or long recovery time.

Who are the best candidates for BBL Photofacial treatments?

  • These treatments are best for those who have:
  • Red, flushed faces (This can be reduced by 80 to 90 percent!)
  • Sun-damaged skin (anywhere on the body)
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Enlarged pores

Who is not a good candidate for BBL Photofacial treatments?
BBL is not a safe option for clients with darker skin types such as African American, and some darker middle eastern skin tones. Chemical peels or the eMatrix are safer, more effective choices for clients with darker skin who want to treat pigmention issues.

What are BBL Photofacial treatments like?
Generally, 3 to 6 treatments are recommended at 3-4 week intervals. Each full-face treatment takes about 20 minutes, other body areas may take a little longer.

Many clients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. There is no discomfort following the treatment. The depth and degree of heat is highly controlled, so there are few risks and you may resume most normal activities right after an IPL photofacial treatment. Your skin may appear flushed, and tiny capillaries may appear more visible. Brown spots can also appear darker and you may experience some slight swelling, but all these changes fade over a period of hours to a few weeks.

What Results Can I Expect?
Beginning with your first treatment, your skin will have a more even tone, with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade, pore size will shrink, and fine wrinkle lines are reduced. Skin redness, flushing and dilated capillaries gradually decrease.

BBL Photofacial treatments offer a very high measure of patient satisfaction. A recent study showed that 96% of BBL photofacial clients would recommend the treatment to others. Begin your series today and restore natural beauty to your skin with no downtime!

IPL Photofacial FAQs

BBL photofacial, also known as IPL or photorejuvenation, is a procedure designed to stimulate and encourage healing and regeneration of the skin through the application of a broad-spectrum light. “BBL,” in fact, stands for “ Broad Band light.” While this therapy is not as concentrated as laser treatment, it can nevertheless have incredibly beneficial effects on the skin.

What is Broad Band Light (BBL) therapy?
The BBL photofacial involves the use of an intense beam of broad-spectrum light (as opposed to lasers, which operate within a very specific wavelength) that targets the dermis, the lower layer of the skin. The procedure simultaneously removes damaged and photoaged skin while stimulating collagen growth. BBL photorejuvenation therapy can improve the color, consistency, and texture of the skin all at once.

What does BBL photofacial treat?
BBL photofacials can treat a wide variety of skin problems. They can be used to remove redness from broken capillaries and can help with rosacea. They can treat brown spots and freckles from sun damage and can also help to smooth uneven skin texture and close large pores.

Are fotofacial, photofacial, and photorejuvenation the same thing?
Yes. These terms all refer to skin rejuvenation treatments using BBL / IPL.

Is BBL photorejuvenation safe?
BBL photorejuvenation is one of the safest light-based skin rejuvenation treatments available. Most clients experience little or no pain during the procedure. Some patients have reported that the light pulses feel similar to a light “snap” from a rubber band. There have been few reported long-term side effects of BBL photorejuvenation, and the most common side effects — redness, minor swelling, and inflammation — usually go away within a few hours to a few days after treatment.

What results can I expect after BBL treatment?
mmediately after your treatment, your face will appear slightly red or flushed, but this is completely normal. It will take several hours to a day or so for the treatment’s results to become noticeable. The redness will fade, and you will see improvements more and more. Depending on the condition you are treating, your experience will differ. For example, if you are treating a lot of brown spots or freckles, the areas may get darker before fading or flaking off in a few days to a few weeks.

Though recovery from BBL photorejuventation is rapid, it is important to keep in mind that sunscreen is vital to ensuring the results of the procedure last as long as possible. Be sure to protect the treated area from the sun for at least a couple of weeks, either by covering the area or wearing strong sunscreen.

Are multiple treatment sessions recommended?
Depending on the area being treated and the severity of the problem, multiple treatment sessions may be recommended. For many problems, clients will need between three and six initial corrective treatments followed by periodic maintenance.

Are there side effects associated with BBL photorejuvenation?
Most reported side effects of BBL photorejuvenation are mild and resolve themselves within a few hours or days of treatment. The most common side effect is facial redness or flushing. Small capillaries may appear larger immediately following treatment as well — but don’t worry; this is common and will fade quickly. In rarer instances, mild bruising and swelling may occur, but this too will go away within a day or so. Permanent side effects from photorejuvenation are extremely rare

Chemical Peels

PCA Professional Peels

Professionally applied peel solutions exfoliate dead skin cells and help healthy skin cells rise to the surface. These treatments allow deeper layers of fresh and untouched skin to be revealed. The result of monthly treatments can even skin tone, clear acne, improve the appearance of aging skin and make dull complexions glow.

Peels are safe for all skin types, and PCA Certified Professionals are trained to identify what treatment combination is safe for each person’s skin in order for patients to reap the greatest benefits. Professional peels are increasingly effective with pre- and post-treatment care, balancing your skin before the peel and nurturing it after the treatment.

Pre- and Post-Treatment

Using PCA SKIN’s daily care products in the weeks before your professional treatment is an important step in preparing your skin and ensuring excellent results. Skin that is balanced and healthy will help reduce the risk of complications and typically lead to better treatment results.

Equally as important, post-treatment products are designed to be used after a chemical peel or other minimally invasive professional treatments to minimize the potential for uncommon side effects. In preparation for your treatment, your clinician will evaluate your skin to determine the most effective combination of daily care products for you.

Q. Who can benefit from SkinMedica® peels?
A. SkinMedica® peels address the visible skin imperfections that result from skin aging and sun exposure, such as fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone and texture. Peels also address skin tone uneveness that can be caused by acne scarring or pigmentary changes. SkinMedica® offers a range of different strength chemical peels that licensed medical professionals can select to provide the optimum treatment for their patients.

Q. Can Chemical Peel be performed on patients with dark skin?
A. Chemical Peel is appropriate for all skin types.

Q. How do I prepare for Chemical Peel treatment?
A. Any procedure or products that may increase skin sensitivity should be avoided before your Vitalize Peel® treatment. Ask your physician or skin care specialist for details.

Q. What should I expect during the Chemical Peel procedure?
A.  The complete treatment is expected to take 45 minutes, which includes ample time to address any questions you may have, and a discussion on your post peel care. The actual application procedure is approximately 20 minutes. Tolerance to the procedure varies from patient to patient. Tingling or burning sensations are normal and expected reactions. A handheld fan can be used during the procedure to minimize discomfort, which usually subsides in a few minutes.

Q. How will my skin look right after the Chemical Peel?
A. Vitalize Peel® can leave yellowish tinge on the skin which is expected to last no longer than 2-3 hours. Mild to moderate redness is expected after any type of chemical peel procedure. The extent of redness varies from patient to patient. The face may appear redder than usual for some time after the treatment and completely resolves after the peeling is complete.

Q. Will I peel after receiving a Chemical Peel treatment?
A. Your skin care professional will provide you with in depth post-procedure instructions. Your post-peel regimen will include SkinMedica® Sensitive Skin Cleanser or Facial Cleanser, moisturizer appropriate for your skin type, and Daily Physical Defense® Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30+.

Q. How can I protect my skin post peel?
A. Since the new skin is more susceptible to sunburn, extra precautions should be taken to limit sun exposure for at least one week after the peel. It is imperative to use a broad spectrum sunscreen product with an SPF of 30 or higher.

eMatrix

Imagine a treatment that can treat fine lines and wrinkles, improve the appearance of acne scars, improve textural irregularities, and tighten skin–all in one sitting. Now, imagine you can achieve all this in a treatment that requires little- to-no downtime and is clinically proven for ALL skin types.

What is Sublative Rejuvenation

FDA-cleared Sublative Rejuvenation using eMatrix is truly a unique procedure because it’s the first to combine the results you can get with aggressive treatments–with no downtime. The secret to Sublative Rejuvenation is the energy used and how the energy is delivered through the skin.

Why Sublative Rejuvenation

For decades laser and light based procedures have been the recommended solution in correcting all kinds of skin imperfections such as wrinkles, scars, discolorations, sun damage etc. Cosmetic treatments became more socially accepted when skin rejuvenation, a low-level light therapy to non-aggressively treat superficial skin conditions, was introduced in 2001.This treatment required multiple treatment sessions, and results were gradual–but there was little to no downtime per treatment. Then in 2004 the plastic surgery movement began and people began to demand faster and more comprehensive results, like the kind you get with face lifts. At this point, fractionated laser therapies were introduced, and although considered non-surgical, these were aggressive treatments that still required weeks of downtime. More importantly, these treatments were not recommended for all skin types due to possible complications.

Today to fill the void between non-aggressive and aggressive while providing a safe and effective treatment for ALL skin types a treatment called Sublative Rejuvenation was introduced in the Summer of 2009.
The “Must See Medical Advances” episode of The Doctors featured the eMatrix with Dr. Tess Mauricio – America’s Favorite Dermatologist. The doctors were enthusiastic about eMatrix saying that it will revolutionize the way we treat darker skin tones for people who previously had very few–if any–options. Dr. Mauricio reports that eMatrix is beneficial for acne scars and skin discoloration, pigmentation, tone, and texture, as well as wrinkle reduction.

Benefits of Sublative Rejuvenation

Sublative Rejuvenation is clinically proven to treat fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks, textural irregularities caused by excessive sun exposure, and skin tightening.
Little to no downtime post-treatment – patients can return to regular activities following treatment.

How Sublative Rejuvenation work

To achieve the best possible results, the energy, whether laser or light, must be delivered below the skin without overheating the top layer of the skin. This has been the challenge with other more aggressive treatments because they work by overheating the top layer of the skin to the point of complete ablation (removal), forcing new skin to develop.
Sublative Rejuvenation uses fractionated bi-polar radio frequency to penetrate through the skin–sending more energy beneath the surface of the skin to really maximize collagen production–while keeping the top layer of the skin intact. This is an important factor in why it’s safe for all skin types.

Sublative Rejuvenation is the “all-natural” approach to enhancing your youthfulness. Unlike other non-aggressive cosmetic treatments such as Botox, fillers, or chemical peels, Sublative Rejuvenation works from the inside out by stimulating cell regrowth. Thus results with Sublative Rejuvenation last longer and can be further enhanced with yearly maintenance treatments.

A full-face treatment session takes less than 20 minutes.

Proven safe and effective on ALL skin types and degrees of pigmentation.

eMatrix FAQs

Q: What makes Sublative Rejuvenation different from other aggressive fractional devices?eMatrix - Bare Med Spa Kansas city
A: Patients today desire face-lift-type results, yet do not want the weeks–to even months–of downtime associated with those treatments. Aggressive treatments also come with limitations on the range of skin types that can be treated, due to the high risk of skin discoloration. Although classified as an aggressive treatment, Sublative Rejuvenation is unique because it delivers optimal efficiency with minimal downtime at an affordable price point–and it’s safe for ALL skin types.

Q: How does Sublative Rejuvenation using eMatrix work?
A: To achieve the best possible results when addressing any skin imperfection, the energy, whether it be laser or light, must be delivered below the skin without overheating the top layer of the skin. This has been the challenge with current more aggressive treatments, because they work by overheating the top layer of the skin to the point of complete ablation (removal), forcing new skin to develop.

Sublative Rejuvenation uses fractional bi-polar radio frequency to penetrate through the skin–to allow more energy beneath the surface of the skin, to really maximize collagen production–while keeping the top layer of the skin intact.
Post treatment, you may notice increased levels of beneficial collagen as new healthy skin cells are produced. Mild to moderate wrinkles and superficial skin discolorations are reduced, and the texture of your skin becomes smoother and more elastic.

Q: How many treatments do I need?
A: Each patient’s treatment protocol will vary based on individual needs and results desired. Most patients will receive 3 – 5 treatments, each spaced four to six weeks apart.
Post treatment, you may notice increased levels of beneficial collagen as new healthy skin cells are produced. Mild to moderate wrinkles and superficial skin discolorations are reduced, and the texture of your skin becomes smoother and more elastic.

Q: When can I expect to see results?
A: Patients will begin to see results after the first treatment and results will continue to improve up to one year post treatment. Because this treatment works to rebuild collagen, there are no limitations on how long the results last. Maintenance treatments are recommended post one year to maintain and further enhance current results.

Q: Does it hurt?
A: Unlike other aggressive fractional treatments, Sublative Rejuvenation with eMatrix is very tolerable. During treatment, many patients feel a warm, prickly sensation. After treatment, a pink or red “sunburn” appearance and feeling is common.

Q: Are there any side effects?
A: No clinical side effects have been reported to date. The beauty about Sublative Rejuvenation is its capability to offer significant results to ALL skin types with little to no downtime.

Q: Is everyone a good candidate for Sublative Rejuvenation?
A: Sublative Rejuvenation is the only fractional treatment that can be used on all skin types. Some skin conditions (such as eczema) may prohibit patients from receiving the treatment. Schedule a consultation at Ovation Med Spa® to determine if Sublative Rejuvenation is right for you.

DermaPlane

Dermaplane treatment is wonderful for exfoliating the skin and for those that have peach fuzz on their face. It removes this along withdead skin cells, resulting in healthier looking skin. Your make up will go on better and your skin will be very smooth. This treatment is great for someone who has sensitive skin or facial hair that does not respond to laser hair removal. This is a no down time procedure that can be done by itself or as a great complement to a HydraFacial or an 02 treatment, the perfect combo for a special occasion.

What is a DermaPlane?

DermaPlane is a skin resurfacing procedure used to remove the thin, top, outer layer of skin (dead epidermal cells). It is performed using a special surgical blade to gently scrape away that top layer of problem skin.
The treatment is wonderful for exfoliating the skin and for those that have peach fuzz on their face. It removes this along withdead skin cells, resulting in healthier looking skin.
Removal of this outer layer of dead skin cells and fine hair enhances the penetration and speed of your personal skin care regimen. It also prepares the skin for other aesthetic procedures such as Hydrafacials, Chemical Peels and PhotoFacials. After the treatment, your make up will go on better and your skin will be very smooth. This treatment is great for someone who has sensitive skin or facial hair that does not respond to laser hair removal.

DermaPlane FAQs

What can I expect during a dermaplane?
Dermaplane treatments last about 15-20 minutes. During the treatment a sterile blade will be used to gently exfoliate your skin. No anesthesia is needed. The sloughed off skin cells and “peach fuzz” will be gently wiped away at the end of the procedure – revealing a fresh, vibrant skin surface.

When will I see results?
Initial benefits from dermplane treatments are immediately apparent. However, optimal results require regular maintenance treatments. It took many years for your skin to lose its vitality, and it takes time to regenerate new cells.
What can I expect after my dermaplane?

Because dermaplaning is non-invasive it has a low risk of complications and is one of the safest skin rejuvenation procedures available. Some clients report redness or dry feeling in their skin after a treatment, but this is temporary. Very rarely the skin can be nicked. This typically heals quickly – remember – most men use a blade on their faces almost every day and nick themselves with no long-term effects! Typical care following your treatment includes the use of moisturizers and sunscreens, and avoiding sun exposure for a few days. There is no downtime for this “lunch hour” procedure, and most people return to their regular activities immediately.

Will the “peach fuzz” on my face grow back darker and thicker after a dermaplane?
No. This is a common myth, but the hair on your face is not the same as the hair on your legs or bikini line. It will not be effected by a dermaplane in any way.

What should I NOT expect from my dermplane treatment?
Regular use of dermaplane treatments can improve or eliminate superficial skin problems. It works on all skin types and colors to produce subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. However, it is not effective for problems such as stretch marks, keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue at the site of a healed skin injury) reducing wrinkles, or deep acne scars. Laser or eMatrix treatments are far more effective in the treatment of these conditions.

Can I combine my dermaplane with other treatments?
Yes! Not only can you combine a dermaplane with hydrafacials chemical peels, or laser treatments, you should! By removing the outermost layer of the epidermis, a dermaplane treatment then allows whatever rejuvenating treatment that follows it to have a deeper and more long-lasting effect.
